Transformative Transdisciplinarity in Earth System Governance: Lessons Learnt and New Ideas
A Session featuring Carina Wyborn , Prof. Chris Riedy , Jasper Montana , Dr. Ehsan Nabavi , Dr. Rebecca Riggs and Dr. Mochamad Indrawan
About this Session
Organized by Research Centre Australia
Transdisciplinarity is increasingly recognised as an important approach to enhance the usability and usefulness of academic knowledge for addressing global sustainability challenges. Fostering transformative transdisciplinarity has been identified as a priority for the earth system governance research community, as reflected in the Nijmegen Agenda that will be launched in conjunction with this Forum. However, integrating diverse knowledge systems - across scientific disciplines, Indigenous knowledges, and the know-how of policy and practice communities - and equitably navigating the resulting power dynamics and communication challenges is not a straightforward task. This session will be an opportunity for researchers involved and interested in transdisciplinarity to share ideas, expertise, and lessons learned in the design and delivery of transdisciplinarity research efforts. By reflecting on experience of engaging in collaboration and co-production with academic and non-academic communities, breaking down disciplinary and sectoral silos, and enacting participatory methodologies, the session will identify broader lessons and new ideas for the earth system governance research community that can support meaningful outcomes towards desired transformative change in a time of polycrisis. The form will be a moderated panel session with several rounds of questions to each panellist from the moderator plus audience Q&A.
