Closing Plenary | ESG Scientific Steering Committee

The Closing Plenary of the 2024 ESG Forum will mark the official end of the event, serving as a key moment for reflection and opportunity to set the stage for the coming year of research and collaboration. The session will bring together a large portion of the forum participants to review the week’s discussions and look to the next chapter of the network’s collective research efforts, guided by key members of the ESG Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) and ESG Forum Committee. Jonathan Pickering, Co-Chair of the SSC, will deliver the opening remarks, synthesizing the key discussions that have emerged during the forum, offering a reflection on the critical themes and challenges identified by the global community. Following the remarks, Chuks Okereke, another esteemed member of the SSC, will facilitate an interactive Q&A session with the plenary’s key speakers. Daniel Hoyer, who’s recent research explores navigating polycrisis through the lens of cultural change and social transformation, will lend his critical insights to the Q&A which aims to foster an open and collaborative dialogue. Further, Laura Pereira and Thomas Haselböck will connect the discussion and key outcomes of the forum with the year of research and collaboration ahead of the 2025 Transformations Community/Earth System Governance Project Conference in South Africa on ‘Navigating Sustainability Transformations Towards Justice & Equity’. Their participation will offer a forward-looking perspective, encouraging participants to remain engaged with the ESG community as it continues to evolve and address pressing global governance challenges.
