Progress and Prospects: Insights and Reflections from the Working Group on Governance of Social-Ecological Systems

After the start of the Working Group on Governance of Social-Ecological Systems one year ago, this session at the 2024 Forum on Earth System Governance will serve to foster exchanges across the different sub-groups of the Working Group and to reflect on the group's progress in its inaugural year.

Each sub-group will present their past and ongoing activities, particularly focusing on the article(s) they are developing. They will also outline their planned future work. Following these presentations, a plenary discussion will be facilitated to engage participants in dialogue, aiming to foster collaborative efforts across sub-groups and to identify synergies. The session will conclude by co-synthesizing insights from all sub-groups into a comprehensive overview that includes the next steps for the Working Group as a whole.

In the second part of the session, the co-convenors of the Working Group will lead a structured reflection on the first year of the Group's activities. This reflection will provide an opportunity to reassess and potentially adapt the group’s strategic directions and activities.
