Permanent Crises vs. Transformation Plans: Where and How Should Knowledge Efforts be Invested?
A Session featuring Åsa Persson , Dr. Carola Klöck , Chantal Naidoo , Karthik Ganesan and Dr. Sébastien Treyer
About this Session
Organized by Research Centre Paris
Locally relevant knowledge capacity about possible long term transformation pathways is necessary to trigger the inevitable transformation towards resilience and sustainability of economic sectors, landscapes, cities or national economies. They are supposed to help the convergence of aspirations, innovations, and even financial flows towards this long-term horizon. But at the same time, the succession of crises, the fragmentation of social bonds, and the degradation of institutions and dialogue capacity within and between societies appear as a fundamental challenge to any effort to plan in the longer run. Is it worthwhile developing research capacity on pathways, scenarios and planning, or should the knowledge effort be put on supporting local actors who are shaping the future in the way they reinvent new forms of collective or political action at local scale at the moment they adapt or survive crises?
