About this speaker

Dr. Vanessa Schweizer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Knowledge Integration in the Faculty of Environment at the University of Waterloo in Canada. She is also a faculty member at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Her research focuses on decision-making under (deep) uncertainty, namely the problem of near-term decision-making in the context of long-term consequences. Her scenario research influenced the development of the Shared Socio-economic Pathways, which are scenarios assessed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Her research interests in scenario analysis span a variety of governance challenges including technology management of carbon dioxide removal in Canada, scenarios of solar radiation management, and the policy coherence of Sustainable Development Goals.
