About this speaker

Lukas Tank works as a postdoc in the interdisciplinary research program ASMASYS 2, which is tasked with developing and using a framework to assess the feasibility and desirability of marine carbon dioxide removal options. He holds a PhD in philosophy and specializes in climate ethics.

Large parts of his work revolve around understanding the moral implications of the fact that dangerous climate change is no longer just a future possibility but a present reality. Plausibly, the immediacy of the threat changes the moral picture, allowing things that were off-limits before. At the same time, it is not plausible to think that all ethical boundaries are null and void in the fight against climate change. He hopes that his work contributes to finding a path between the two extremes.
