Jean-Frédéric Morin is Full Professor at the Political Science Department of Laval University (Québec City, Canada). Before holding the Canada Research Chair in International Political Economy, he was professor of international relations at the Free University of Brussels (ULB) from 2008 to 2014.
Jean-Frédéric's research looks at international institutions. He is particularly interested in how international institutions innovate, interact and evolve. Empirically, he looks at institutions in the fields of trade, outer space, and environmental governance.
He is the creator of the TREND dataset (on trade/environemnt), the SAGE dataset (on space institutions) and he co-directs the IEADB (on environmental agreements)
His publications have appeared in journals such as International Studies Quarterly, European Journal of International Relations, Review of International Organizations, International Interactions, Global Governance, Global Environmental Politics, and Review of International Political Economy.
Committed to public communication and interdisciplinary collaborations, Jean-Frédéric is Felllow of the Trudeau Foundation, Member of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) College, Senior Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), Member of the Steering Committee of the Environmental Politics & Governance (EPG) network, Senior Research Fellow at the Earth System Governance (ESG) Project, Fellow of the Canadian International Council (CIC), member of McGill University's Center for Intellectual Property Policy (CIPP), member of Université de Montréal's Centre de recherche en droit prospectif (CRDP), member of the Centre interuniversitaire de recherche en économie quantitative (CIREQ) affiliated with the Ostrom Workshop at University of Indiana, alumnus of Action Canada (2004-2005) and alumnus of the Fulbright Scholar program (2018-2019). At Université Laval, he is a member of ESEI, EDS and CREATE.
Jean-Frédéric has (co)supervised more than one hundread master students, 20 PhD candidates and 8 postdoctoral fellows. He is the recipient of the FSS award for graduate students mentorship (2020) and the UL award for execellence in graduate student supervision (2023). He is available to supervise PhD candidates working on international institutions or global governance.
