About this speaker

Hope is an interdisciplinary doctoral researcher in the field of Global Governance, specializing in ocean governance. Her Ph.D. research focuses on the potential fragmentation of ocean governance in areas beyond national jurisdiction. Specifically, she analyzes the regimes of deep seabed mining (DSM), marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR), and prospecting for marine genetic resources (MGR), with the ultimate aim of mapping the legal and institutional intersections and interactions amongst the three emerging activities. The goal of Hope's research is to inform both public policy and emerging international legal agreements governing technological activities in global commons spaces, shed light on a potential rising constitutional framework concerning global commons resources, as well as make a theoretical but practical argument for cohesiveness across legal regimes in the ocean areas beyond national jurisdiction.
